PUEBLO, CO -- It was a big day for Miner Athletics at the National Meet today.
Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) won the discus throw with a mark of 59.29, becoming the first field athlete in school history to win a national title. Meanwhile,
Otto Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) earned All-American honors in the decathlon with program record 7,333 points.
Knittel improved upon a strong first day with three personal records in five events today, setting PRs in the pole vault, the discus, and the javelin. He finished the decathlon with a school record 7,333 points, 361 points better than the record that he set last month, earning 6th place and the title of All-American.
Fraser never trailed in the discus throw, starting off with a 58.59m mark. He would win the event with a 59.29m mark that came on his fifth throw, earning the first T&F individual national title in school history. Fraser dominated the event, with each of his countable throws going further than anyone else's in the field.

Fraser competes in the shot put tomorrow at 6:05pm.
