ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball fell to Indianapolis 59-64 on Saturday afternoon.
The Miners led after the first quarter 15-14 over the Greyhounds.
Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) and
Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) both hit buckets in the first two minutes to give S&T an early 5-0 lead. The Greyhounds took an 8-7 lead until the Miners went on a 5-0 run.
Morgan Luebbering (St. Thomas, MO/Fatima) drained a three-pointer, but Indianapolis ended the quarter with a layup to make the score 15-14 in favor of S&T.
At halftime, S&T held a 34-24 lead over Indianapolis. At an 18-19 deficit, S&T went on a 10-0 run for a nine-point lead.
Chorus Davis (Kansas City, MO/Lincoln College Prep) landed a three-pointer with 1:57 left to make it a 10-point advantage. To end the half, Finley hit a jumper to make the score 34-24.
Indianapolis outscored Missouri S&T in the third quarter 19-10 to make it a one-point game. The Greyhounds put up 12 straight points to begin the quarter to take a 36-34 lead. Davis gave the Miners a 40-38 lead with four consecutive points. The two teams remained back-and-forth the rest of the quarter, but S&T held a 44-43 lead with 10 minutes to go.
The Greyhounds won the game 64-59 after outscoring the Miners 21-15 in the fourth quarter. With a 50-54 deficit for the Miners, Gum hit a three-point shot to make it a one-point game with 4:48 left. Indianapolis went out to a five-point lead, but
Franchesca Metz (Downers Grove, IL/Nazareth Academy) made it 57-59 with a three-pointer landed. UIndy hit free throws at the end of the game as the Miners fell 59-64.
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) led the Miners on Saturday with 15 points. Finley tallied 10 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Davis recorded 10 points, four rebounds and two steals. Luebbering had 10 points and Gum grabbed 10 rebounds with eight points.
The Miners shot 34.8% from the field and 25.9% from three-point range. They picked up 38 rebounds with 24 points in the paint. This game featured 10 ties and 19 different lead changes, but Indianapolis eventually came out on top.
With the loss, Missouri S&T remains in seventh place in the GLVC with a 6-6 conference record. They sit tied with Truman and one game behind McKendree.
What's Next
S&T will go back on the road next week at Quincy on Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. Following that game, they will go to Upper Iowa on Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. The Miners come back home on Feb. 13 to play William Jewell at 5:30 p.m.
