QUINCY, Ill. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball fell to Quincy 61-79 on the road on Thursday night.
In the first quarter, Quincy outscored Missouri S&T 25-15. The Hawks took an early 9-2 lead that turned into a 12-point lead at 18-6. S&T went on a 7-1 run to cut the lead in half. However, Quincy recorded a 6-2 run at the end of the quarter to hold a 25-15 lead.
The Hawks outscored the Miners in the second quarter 20-17 as they held a 45-32 lead at halftime. Mariann Blass drained a three-pointer to start the quarter before
Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) and
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) both hit jumpers to respond.
Chorus Davis (Kansas City, MO/Lincoln College Prep) cut the deficit down to nine points, but the Hawks hit a three-pointer to make it 37-25. Quincy held their double-digit lead the rest of the quarter to lead 45-32 at halftime.
S&T answered out of halftime as they won the third quarter 16-12. The Miners started out the quarter on a 10-4 run, highlighted by a three-pointer made from both Davis and Finley. Finley cut the deficit to six points with 2:17 left but three straight points from Quincy at the end of the quarter made the score 57-48.
Quincy closed out the game with a 19-13 fourth quarter to win 76-61. Their 6-0 run to start the quarter made it a 63-48 game. Roberts made it a 10-point game with a layup until another Quincy 6-0 run put the game away. The game ended as Quincy won 76-61.
Roberts led the Miners with a season-high 19 points, nine rebounds and five blocks. Her 8-for-12 shooting also led the team. Finley tallied 14 points and five assists with just one turnover. Gum picked up eight points and five rebounds.
S&T shot 40.7% from the field and 4-for-10 from three-point range. In the paint, the Miners picked up 36 points. They had six blocks, seven steals and 33 rebounds against the Hawks.
The Miners fell to eighth place in the GLVC after the loss. They are 11-8 overall with a 6-7 GLVC record.
What's Next
Missouri S&T will close out the weekend on Saturday at Upper Iowa at 1 p.m. Their final home weekend will begin on Feb. 13 against William Jewell at 5:30 p.m. Senior Day is slated for Feb. 15 versus Truman at 1 p.m.
