ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball fell to Maryville 57-72 on Thursday night at Gibson Arena.
The Miners held a 15-13 lead over the Saints following the first quarter. After
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) won the tip-off,
Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) put in a layup just two seconds into the game. S&T started the game with a 6-3 lead until Maryville took an 8-6 lead.
Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) put in a three-pointer and two more layups made the score 13-8. The Saints went on a 5-2 run to end the quarter as S&T led 15-13 after the first.
Maryville had their biggest quarter of the night as they outscored S&T 23-10 in the second. To start the quarter, the Saints went on a 13-2 run to go up 26-17. The two teams remained back-and-forth until Claire Rake drained a three-pointer to give Maryville a 12-point lead. Going into halftime, the Saints retained a 36-25 lead.
They took a bigger lead after the third quarter as Maryville outscored S&T 21-19. The Miners recorded a 6-2 run to bring to deficit down to nine points. The Saints drained two three-pointers in 35 seconds to take a 13-point lead. To end the quarter, Maryville retained that 13-point lead with a score of 57-44.
The Miners fell to the Saints 57-72 as they were outscored 15-13 in the fourth quarter. S&T brought the deficit down to seven points after Gum hit two three-point shots. Maryville answered with two three-pointers of their own to bring their lead back to 13 points. S&T attempted another comeback, but Maryville answered as the Saints won 72-57 over the Miners.
Gum picked up a career-high 19 points for the Miners. She went 7-for-14 from the field. Finley tallied 11 points, four rebounds and two assists. Roberts had six points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks. On the glass,
Chorus Davis (Kansas City, MO/Lincoln College Prep) collected seven rebounds with six points, two assists and two blocks.
Missouri S&T shot 35.5% from the field and 27.3% from three-point range. They had 38 total rebounds with 10 offensive rebounds. The Miners picked up 26 points in the paint.
S&T dropped to sixth place in the GLVC with the loss. It is their first loss since Dec. 7, 2024, and just their third loss of the season. They still hold an 8-2 record at Gibson Arena with a 4-2 GLVC record.
What's Next
The Miners end their three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon against Missouri-St. Louis at 1 p.m. Following that game, they will go on a three-game road trip. Their first game is at William Jewell on Jan. 20 at 3 p.m.
