ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball took down Drury for the first time since 2011 with a final score of 63-57.
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) gave the Miners an early 6-4 lead, but the Panthers went on a 5-0 run to take a 9-6 lead. S&T put up three points to tie the game before Drury recorded four straight points.
Franchesca Metz (Downers Grove, IL/Nazareth Academy) put in a three-pointer until the Panthers responded with a three-point shot made.
Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) cut it to a two-point deficit and
Ava Maner (Rogers, AR/Providence Academy) drained a three-pointer. Drury took a two-point lead into the first quarter break.
With a 19-17 score, the Panthers outscored the Miners in the second quarter by two points.
Bonnie Lew Ludlow (Indianapolis, IN/Covenant Christian) tied the game midway through the quarter with a three-pointer. The Panthers responded with a 7-1 run to take a five-point lead. They went in the locker room with a four-point lead.
Missouri S&T won a low-scoring third quarter 11-10 to cut the deficit to three points. Halfway through the quarter,
Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) drained a three-pointer to make it a two-point game. The Panthers answered once again with a three-ball of their own to go up by five points. To end the quarter, the Miners found themselves down 41-44.
In the fourth, S&T turned it up offensively as they outscored the Panthers 22-13. They started the quarter with seven points in the first two minutes to go up 48-44. Drury tied the game until
Chorus Davis (Kansas City, MO/Lincoln College Prep) landed a three-point shot. The game tied up once again at 57-57 with 1:10 left in the game. That would be the last time that the Panthers scored as S&T went on a 6-0 run to end the game and win 63-57.
Gum led the Miners with 17 points, one off her season-high 18 points. Roberts recorded 12 points, six rebounds and five blocks. Her five blocks tied a career high.
Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) tallied 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Davis contributed five rebounds and Kent picked up four assists.
Although the Miners shot 36.9% from the field, they held the Panthers to 31% from the field and 26.9% from beyond the arc. S&T collected 43 total rebounds and 32 points in the paint. This game saw seven ties and seven lead changes but the Miners extended their winning streak to four games.
With a 9-2 record and 4-1 conference record, the Miners are off to their best start of a season since 2011-12. With a win over the former 10-3 Panthers, the Miners ended their 23-game losing skid versus Drury. It is their first win over Drury since the 2012-13 season, where S&T went 16-12 and 11-7 in the GLVC.
What's Next
The Miners will be back in action next week against Maryville on Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at home. Their will welcome Missouri-St. Louis on Jan. 18 and go on the road at William Jewell on Jan. 20.
