EDMOND, Okla. – Missouri S&T's golf team remained in strong contention to advance out of the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional Friday as it finds itself in a three-way tie for fourth place after the completion of 36 holes at Kickingbird Golf Course.
The Miners shot a one-over-par 281 in the round and find themselves tied with Ferris State and Henderson State at three-under-par following two rounds of play. That trio of teams is currently five shots in front of seventh place Missouri Southern heading into Saturday's final round and only a shot behind third place Central Oklahoma, with the top five teams advancing to the NCAA Division II Championships in Orlando, Fla.
Cole Komyati (Elberta, AL/Bayside Academy) had the best day among the Miners on Friday as he carded a one-under-par 69 with four birdies on the day.
Carl Miltun (Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field) and
Jeppe Thybo (Esbjerg, Denmark/Rybners Gymnasium) each finished the day with a 70, as Miltun had a pair of birdies and Thybo had one with 16 pars on the day.
Isaac To (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia/Real International School) had the fourth scoring mark for the Miners in round two as he shot a 72 and
Connor Benjamin (Nelson Bay, Australia/St. Philip's Christian College) finished with a 77 to round out the S&T contingent.
Thybo is the highest-ranked Miner on the individual leaderboard in a tie for seventh place with a three-under 137, while Komyati is tied for 17
th at 139 and Miltun is at an even par 140 which has him in a tie for 22
nd.
Harding, who was tied with S&T for the team lead after the first round, has a two-shot lead over Grand Valley State and is six ahead of the Miners. Henderson State's Alex Hadden is the current individual leader with a six-under-par score of 134. The final round will take place on Saturday and the Miners will be paired up with the two teams they are tied with heading into the day.
