DES MOINES, Iowa – Missouri S&T's Rhet Liley (Jackson, MO/Jackson) captured the championship in the javelin throw Saturday at the Drake Relays, while Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) had a sixth place finish in the hammer throw to complete a successful for S&T's competitors at the prestigious meet.

Liley won the javelin on his first attempt as he made a season-best throw of 201-4; he was the only one of the 18 competitors to clear 60 meters on any attempt.  Three of his four throws on the day exceeded the 190-foot mark and his fourth was four inches shy of that mark, as he won the event by just over feet over Viterbo's Gabe Holderby.

Luebbert also had his top mark of the day on his first attempt as he had a throw of 213-4.  He was in second place after the first round, but had one other throw over 210 feet of 212-3 in the fourth round of the event that was won by Minnesota's Angelos Mantzouranis at 247-10.

All four of the Miner entries at the Drake Relays – Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) and Paulvin Horton (Raleigh, NC/Garner) competed on Friday – finished among the top seven in events during the course of the meet.

Missouri S&T will open competition at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships Thursday at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo.
