ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball ended the week with a 60-85 loss against Quincy on Saturday.
The Miners put up 19 points in the first quarter, but the Hawks outscored them with 26 of their own points. Quincy took an early 6-0 lead, but S&T tied it up at 8-8 later in the quarter. The Hawks put up another six-point run and took a 10-point lead late in the first. With four seconds left,
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) put in a bucket to make it a seven-point game.
In the second quarter, both teams had 13 points as Quincy went into halftime with a seven-point lead. The Hawks went up by 11 at one point but the Miners brought it back within five points but went into halftime with a 32-39 deficit.
Quincy outscored S&T in the third quarter 24-16. A three-pointer midway through the quarter made the score 54-41 but the Miners put in two quick buckets to make it a nine-point game. Quincy responded as they put up nine points in the last 2:46 to extend their lead to 15 points at the break.
S&T fell to Quincy as they were outscored 22-12 in the fourth quarter.
Franchesca Metz (Downers Grove, IL/Nazareth Academy) started out the quarter with a three-pointer, but the Hawks scored seven seconds later to limit any momentum. Two layups from Ashlynn Arnsman in the later part of the game gave Quincy an 85-60 win over the Miners.
Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) had a career-high 18 points for the Miners with 5-for-9 shooting. She also picked up five rebounds, three assists and 8-for-9 shooting from the free throw line. Roberts recorded 17 points and five rebounds. Metz tallied 12 points and five boards. S&T shot 34.3% from the field with 34 points in the paint. They collected 33 rebounds with two blocks and five steals.
Through the first week of the GLVC season, the Miners sit in fifth place with a 5-2 overall record and 2-1 conference record. Their five wins at home is the most in the conference.
What's Next
Missouri S&T will be back in action on Dec. 19 where they will take on Harris-Stowe at 11 a.m. for Education Day. Their eight-game homestand will conclude on Dec. 21 against Eureka at 1 p.m. GLVC play will start back up at Truman State on Jan. 3.
