ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball took down Harris-Stowe 80-50 on Thursday morning for Education Day.
S&T came out in the first quarter firing as they took a 19-10 lead.
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) put up the first four points for the Miners until
Franchesca Metz (Downers Grove, IL/Nazareth Academy) drained a three-pointer to go up 7-2.
Morgan Luebbering (St. Thomas, MO/Fatima) had four first quarter points and
Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) ended the quarter with a three-pointer.
In the second quarter, the Hornets brought it closer, but the Miners won it 19-18. Kent drained another three-point shot as
Chorus Davis (Kansas City, MO/Lincoln College Prep) gave the Miners an 11-point lead with a layup. Harris-Stowe brought it back within seven, but Missouri S&T went on a 6-0 run to go up by 13 points. At halftime, the Miners led 38-28.
S&T won the third quarter 20-12 over Harris-Stowe. The Hornets came out hot in the third as they brought it back within four points. After a timeout, Kent made two jumpers and a three-pointer to give S&T a 45-36 lead. Luebbering recorded eight more points the rest of the quarter to give the Miners an 18-point lead at the break.
They closed out the game with an 80-50 win over Harris-Stowe. Between the third and fourth quarter, the Miners recorded a 14-0 run. They ended the game on a 7-0 run to defeat the Hornets 80-50.
Luebbering led the team with 16 points and 7-for-10 shooting. Kent put up 15 points and 3-for-6 three-point shooting. Roberts had 12 points and Davis had six to round out the top four.
Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) led the Miners with six rebounds.
Ava Maner (Rogers, AR/Providence Academy) tallied six assists with five points, three rebounds and two steals.
The Miners shot 30-for-54 from the field with a 36.4% clip from three-point range. They recorded 36 rebounds with seven steals. S&T collected 48 points in the paint with 44 bench points.
With the win, the Miners moved to 6-2 on the season. This is the first season since 2011-12 that the Miners have started a season off 6-2.
What's Next
The Miners will get one day off until they conclude the 2024 calendar year against Eureka on Saturday at 1 p.m. Following that game, they will restart GLVC play on Jan. 3 at Truman State.
