INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Missouri S&T's women's track & field team had nine scoring performances and a school record performance Sunday as it placed sixth at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Indianapolis.

The Miners had a pair of fourth and fifth place finishes to pace their efforts on the second day of the meet as they finished with 46.5 points, a point and a half behind Truman State for fifth.  The sixth place showing was S&T's best at the GLVC Indoor Championships since it finished fourth in 2019.

Sydney Stephens (Plattsburg, MO/Plattsburg) recorded a fourth-place effort in the shot put Sunday as she had a school record mark of 41-0½ and was one of three Miners to score in the event.  Jessica Rhoads (Holts Summit, MO/Jefferson City) placed sixth at 40-9, while Paige Lambright (Poplar Grove, IL/Belvidere North) ended up seventh with a mark of 40-5.

Kassandra Hayes (Rolla, MO/Rolla) also had a fourth place finish in the high jump as the Miners had three scorers in that event as well.  Hayes cleared 5-1 for her top-four finish, while Olivia Henkel (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) and Annmarie Tyson (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) tied for sixth as they also cleared 5-1, but had more misses in the competition.

S&T got a fifth place performance from Elizabeth Rothweiler (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne) in the pole vault as she cleared 10-3 ¼ and Sydney Gratz (Geneva, IL/Geneva) ended up seventh with a clearance at 9-9¼.   Maya Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro), who had a second place showing in the pentathlon Saturday, finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.32 seconds.

The Miners closed the meet with an eighth place showing from the 4x400-meter relay team of Lily Chung (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central), Kayla Edwards (Troy, IL/Triad), Emma Puetz (Rolla, MO/Rolla) and Wright with a time of 4:21.76.

Missouri S&T was also selected as the recipient of the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award as a team, while Emma Mueller (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) was selected as the Miners' nominee for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award, which honors student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
