PITTSBURG, Kan. – Missouri S&T's Maya Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) opened the 2023-24 indoor track & field season Friday by reaching an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the pentathlon during the Boo Rogers Multi-Events at Pittsburg State University.
Wright accumulated 3,268 points in the five-event competition Friday to eclipse the standard of 3,242 for the pentathlon. She started the day with a time of 9.13 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles that was good for 883 points, then had marks of 5-0¾ in the high jump, 30-2¼ in the shot put, 16-4½ in the long jump and and 2:30.67 in the 800-meters.
S&T's other competitor in the pentathlon, Lauryn Fenoglio (Granite City, IL/Granite City), finished with 2,713 points in her first collegiate competition.
The men's team has two competitors going in the heptathlon, with Otto Knittel currently holding a score of 2,711 points after four events and Caleb Craft with a mark of 2,643. Both posted their highest event score in the 60-meter dash, as Craft had a time of 7.21 seconds for 809 points and Knittel's time of 7.22 seconds was good for 806.
The final three events in the heptathlon will be contested on Saturday during the Crimson & Gold Invitational that the rest of the Miners will participate in at PSU.
