COLUMBIA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team got a pair of NCAA Division II provisional qualifying times Wednesday on the opening day of the three-day Mizzou Invitational at the University of Missouri.
Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) won the consolation final in the 200-yard individual medley and surpassed the provisional time in the process with a mark of 1:47.96, while
Oscar Iden (Oslo, Norway/Oslo Private Gymnasium) reached a provisional mark in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.69 seconds.
Bichsel easily surpassed the provisional standard of 1:51.15 in the event and was nearly two seconds off the automatic qualifying time for the event.
S&T's 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Adam Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe),
Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton), Iden and
Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) finished with a time of 1:22.82, just over two seconds off the provisional mark. The 400-yard medley relay team consisting of Walters, Clancy, Iden and Wiedemeier had a time of 3:23.99 in the finals.
Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden) scored for S&T in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:41.81. Only six events were contested on the opening day of the meet.
S&T is in fifth place among the six teams taking part in the meet, which will run through Friday.
