S&T falls to top-ranked Drury in final dual meet of season

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team faced top-ranked Drury in its final dual meet of the season Thursday afternoon and despite getting two individual event victories, dropped a 128-77 decision to the Panthers at the S&T Pool.

S&T's event wins on Thursday came from Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:43.27 as he edged Drury's Josue Hernandez Tellez by 0.07 seconds and Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton), who captured first in the 100-yard backstroke by 0.01 seconds over DU's Nathan Bighetti.

Second place finishes were recorded by Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden/) in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:59.94, Daniel Matlock (Peoria, IL/Richwoods) in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:55.39, Nate Baxter (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) in the 100-yard butterfly in 50.50 seconds, Walters in the 100-freestyle in 47.03 seconds and Jordan Christensen (Coralville, IA/Iowa West) in the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.74 seconds.

S&T's 200-yard medley relay team of Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton), Christensen, Nate Baxter (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) and Nolan Fergus (Aurora, IL/Marmion Academy) also finished second in 1:32.71, while the Miners also took second in the 200-freestyle relay as the team of Clancy, Connor Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe), Baxter and Walters posted a time of 1:24.86.

Marcelo Busch (Sao Centrano Do Sui-Sp, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) placed third in the 1,000-freestyle in 10:04.29 and in the 500-freestyle with a time of 4:49.28, as did Fergus in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.71 seconds and 100-butterfly in 51.27. Wiedemeier, who had a time of 47.77 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and Matlock, who posted a mark of 58.77 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke, also had third place showings.

Missouri S&T's next competition will be at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, which will begin Feb. 8 in Evansville, Ind.
