7/12/2022 2:02:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – Both of Missouri S&T's cross country teams were honored for their work in the classroom during the 2021-22 academic year as they were among 209 teams in NCAA Division II to receive All-Academic awards from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

In addition to the team awards, two members of the men's team – Andrew Lofgren (Chesterfield, MO/Parkway West) and Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) – received All-Academic athlete awards from the USTFCCCA.  The individual awards are given to those with a 3.25 grade point average that finished among the top 30 percent of the finishers at the NCAA Division II regional meet.

The S&T women's squad, one of 111 women's teams that posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or better for the past academic year, was one of 24 that had an average of 3.70 or above.  The Miners had the second-highest GPA among the seven teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference that were honored.

The men's team was among eight GLVC teams to receive the award and also had the second-best average among the conference schools; S&T's team grade point average ranked 13th in all of NCAA Division II.

With this year's awards included, Missouri S&T's team were honored for the 11th consecutive season in which the awards were presented; no awards were given out in 2020 as no NCAA regional competition took place during that season.

Lofgren, who is majoring in geological engineering at Missouri S&T, finished in 49th place among the 203 runners that finished the race at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional, while Rackers, a ceramic engineering major, finished in 67th place.  Lofgren and Rackers were among 275 student-athletes in Division II to earn the academic honor among 17 competitors from the GLVC.
