ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T had two members of its men's track & field team earn a spot on the College Sports Information Directors of America's Academic All-District team on Thursday, as seniors Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) and Nick Janke (Rolla, MO/Rolla) landed on the 13-member squad for District 4 in NCAA Division II.

Swadley, who earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors last season and is now a three-time Academic All-District selection, was recently honored as the recipient of the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Paragon Award as the top student-athlete in the conference.  A May 2022 graduate of S&T with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Swadley is competing this Saturday at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Allendale, Mich.

During the 2021-22 season, Swadley won the indoor shot put championship in the GLVC, one of 18 shot put titles he has won during his Miner career and also holds three S&T school records.  He owns the mark in both the indoor and outdoor shot put, setting the indoor mark of 59-1¼ in finishing sixth at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in March and established the outdoor mark earlier this month of 58-8¾.

Swadley's third school record is in the discus throw of 173-1, a mark he hit in the course of winning that competition at the 2021 GLVC Outdoor Championships where he was named as the GLVC's Field Athlete of the Year.

Janke also graduated from S&T in May 2022 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and also had a strong career in the multi-event competitions as well as the high jump and long jump.  At the 2022 GLVC Outdoor Championships, Janke finished third in the decathlon – he finished among the top three at all three conference meets he competed in at S&T -- and added a fourth place showing in the high jump.  He also recorded a second place finish in the heptathlon at the GLVC Indoor Championships in February.

A member of three GLVC championship teams (two outdoors, one indoors), Janke also finished the 2022 season with the Miners' second-best mark in the high jump of a career-best 6-7½ and also posted his career best in the long jump this season of 22-1¾ that he reached during the Dewey Allgood Invitational in April.

The team consists of members from the GLVC, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference.  The S&T duo were among six GLVC student-athletes selected, joining Illinois Springfield's Blake Jones, Indianapolis' Ben Nagel, Maryville's Caleb Pyle and Lindenwood's Samuel Yaro.

The Academic All-America team will be announced on June 22.
