Miners improve two marks in Last Chance Qualifier

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's track & field teams closed out its regular season competition Thursday at the Miner Last Chance Qualifier by improving on a pair of NCAA Division II provisional marks over the course of the day.

Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) improved his mark in the shot put to the 13th-best in NCAA Division II with a toss of 58-8¾, while Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) was second in the shot with a mark of 47-3.  Later in the day, Luebbert hit a season-best mark of his own in the hammer throw of 193-4 that also bettered his provisional mark in that event.

Jarett Johnson (Webb City, MO/Webb City) had the top mark Thursday in the javelin of 206-10, just shy of his season and career best in the event, while Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) took first in the 1,500-meters as he recorded a time of 3:50.51 and Mitch Fairless (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne) placed second in the high jump by clearing 6-8¼.

S&T got a second place showing as well from Aaron Toben (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.87 seconds and a third place finish from Jake Anderson (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) in the pole vault as he cleared 16-4¾.  The Miners had four of the top five finishers in the 5,000-meters, led by Evan Stephens (Jackson, MO/Jackson) in second with a time of 16:34.15.  Joshua Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) was third in 16:45.19, Samuel Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) was fourth in 16:48.60 and Jorge Cantu (Cypress, TX/Bridgeland) placed fifth in 17:06.62.

Sam Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) was also third in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.26 seconds, while Samuel Schmidt was fourth in the 200-meters in 22.05 seconds and fifth in the 100-meters with a time of 10.84 seconds.  Zack Southard (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) placed fourth in the 800-meters in 2:10.60.

Maya Washington (St. Louis, MO/Homeschooled) had the top finish among the women's competitors by taking second in the 100-meter dash in 11.82 seconds – the second-fastest performance in school history – while Delaney Guy (Glendale Heights, IL/Glenbard North) finished in third in the long jump with a leap of 16-11¼ .

Paige Lambright (Poplar Grove, IL/Belvidere North) also had a third place showing in the discus with a mark of 129-1 and was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 39-6.
