Swimmers host Truman in home finale on Friday

1/12/2022 10:30:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team will compete in its home facility for the final time in the 2021-22 season Friday evening when the Miners host Truman State in a dual meet beginning at 5 p.m.

The Miners come into the meet ranked 14th in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America rankings and will be competing for the next-to-last time before the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships get underway on Feb. 9.  In addition, the Miner seniors that will be competing at home for the last time will also be honored prior to the start of Friday's meet.

S&T's last competition took place on Dec. 17 when it won a dual meet over Missouri-St. Louis, but the Miners posted the bulk of their season bests at the Mizzou Invitational in November.  At that meet, S&T swimmers reached seven NCAA Division II B-cut marks, two of them coming from Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton) in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke.

Two of S&T's other national qualifiers from last season also made B-cuts at Mizzou, as Andy Huffman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) did so in the 400-yard individual medley and Joshua Umrysh (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) made it in the 100-yard breaststroke.  The others to make B-cuts were Alex Graham (Parker, TX/Homeschooled) and Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden) in the 1,650-yard freestyle and Nolan Fergus (Aurora, IL/Marmion Academy) in the 100-yard butterfly.

Clancy currently has the 12th-fastest time in Division II in the 100-backstroke of 48.13 seconds and was also part of S&T's 400-yard medley relay team that has the 12th-fastest time in the nation this season.

Truman's top performers this season have included Aaron Kohler, who has the team's top times in 100- and 200-yard freestyle as well as the 200-yard butterfly and Connor Neils, who has recorded the best marks in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle.
