BOLIVAR, Mo. –
Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) broke his own school record in the shot put and
Joseph Nickell (Nixa, MO/Nixa) made an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark Saturday to highlight Missouri S&T's performances at the Southwest Baptist Invitational.
Swadley broke the school record in the outdoor shot with his mark of 57-9 that placed him second in the competition on Saturday. Nickell, meanwhile, recorded his NCAA provisional mark as he took fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 16-0½.
The Miners had 11 top-eight finishes in events on Saturday in a meet that featured 16 teams, mainly from the Great Lakes Valley Conference and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. S&T got a third place finish from
Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) in the 1,500-meters in a time of 3:51.14, while teammate
Hayes Pateidl (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) came in sixth in the event in 3:56.07
Swadley had a fifth in the discus with a throw of 161-6, while
Luke Allen (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) placed sixth in the long jump at 23-5¼.
Aaron Toben (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) came in seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.31 seconds along with
Nick Janke (Rolla, MO/Rolla) in the decathlon with a total of 6,106 points.
Daniel McMurran (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis University HS) was eighth in the high jump as he cleared 5-10½ along with
Aaron Jones (Kansas City, MO/Ruskin) in the triple jump at 46-4, just ahead of Allen's mark of 45-7¾.
Mark Krueger (Smithville, MO/Smithville) took ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:04.71
The Miners' 4x100-meter relay team of Toben,
Bailey Crone (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville), Augie Bindbeutel and Allen also placed sixth with a time of 43.20 seconds.
Jessica Rhoads had the highest finish among S&T's women's competitors on Saturday with a fourth place finish in the discus with her throw of 139-11. Annmarie Tyson finished fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 5-1¾ as did Danielle Wilson in the long jump with a leap of 17-11. Tyson also had a ninth place showing in the long jump with a mark of 17-2¼.
Grace Geisler posted a sixth place showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:06.10, one spot ahead of Krista Hilmas' time of 12:06.97. S&T also had an eighth place effort from Anne Simpson in the heptathlon as she recorded 4,032 points.
Missouri S&T will compete next Saturday at the Blue Tiger Invitational at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo.
