ST. CHARLES, Mo. – In one of its last competitions prior to the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Missouri S&T had four first place finishes, two improved NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks and a school record performance over two days at the Dick Cochran Invitational at Lindenwood University.
Joseph Nickell (Nixa, MO/Nixa) cleared a season-best 16-4¾ to improve on his NCAA Division II provisional mark as part of his winning performance in the pole vault, while
Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) won the hammer throw Friday with an NCAA Division II provisional mark of 191-feet and added a second win Saturday by taking the shot put competition with a mark of 54-1. Swadley would add a third place finish over the weekend in the discus with a mark of 160-1.
Meanwhile,
Hayes Pateidl (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) broke a record that had stood for seven years in the 5,000-meters as he took second in the event to Illinois Springfield's Cortland Ross in a time of 14:43.55. In that same race,
Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) ran a time of 14:55.02 to finish in fourth and that time also fell below the previous school record in the event.
Rackers also posted a second place finish in the 1,500-meters in 3:58.73, while seconds also came from
Aaron Toben (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) in the 200-meters in 22.33 seconds,
Luke Allen (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) in the long jump with a leap of 22-9¼,
Jarett Johnson (Webb City, MO/Webb City) in the javelin with a throw of 161-5 and
Ethan Haller (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) in the 800-meters in 1:56.16
S&T got third place finishes from
Jadon Kilpack (Hallsville, MO/Hallsville) in the pole vault as he cleared 15-1 and Toben in the 400-meters with a time of 49.84 seconds, while
Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) placed fourth in the hammer with a mark of 179-1. S&T's 4x400-meter relay team of
Dakota Doupe (Jones, OK/Jones), Haller,
Drew Schulte (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) and
Mark Krueger (Smithville, MO/Smithville) finished fourth in 3:34.58, while the 4x100-meter quartet of Toben,
Bailey Crone (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville),
Augustine Bindbeutel (St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers College HS) and Allen finished sixth in 44.73 seconds.
Nick Janke (Rolla, MO/Rolla) was fifth in the long jump at 21-7½ as was
Michael Pate (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) in the 400-meters in 50.23 seconds.
Garrett Miller (Kearney, MO/Kearney) finished in sixth place in the hammer at 165-8 and in the shot put at 40-5, while Kilpack was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.75 seconds.
Matt Weston had an eighth place showing in the hammer throw with a mark of 147-11, as did
Eric Brice (St. Louis, MO/Cardinal Ritter College Prep) in the long jump at 21-1½, Luebbert in the discus at 124-11, Janke in the 110-hurdles in 16.91 seconds.
Jessica Rhoads captured the one event win for the women's team by taking first in the discus throw with a mark of 132-9, while teammate Sydney Stephens was second in the discus at 124-9. Stephens also had a third place showing in the javelin throw with a mark of 112-6 as did Paige Lambright in the shot put with a mark of 36-7½ and Sydney Gratz in the pole vault as she cleared 9-6¼.
Delaney Guy finished in fourth in the long jump with a mark of 16-10 as did Emma Puetz in the 1,500-meters in 5:07.24, Laurana Mitchell in the 400-meters in 1:02.72 and Grace Giesler in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:36.55, while AnnMarie Tyson tied for fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 4-11.
In the hammer throw, Rhoads finished fourth with a throw of 143-2 – the second-best throw in school history -- while Stephens was right behind here with a fifth place mark of 141-11 that was the fifth-best in that event in S&T history. Hope Strausbaugh had a fifth place finish in the 10,000-meters with a time of 44:26.28, while Emma Mueller finished sixth in 48:07.51.
S&T also had a fourth place finish from the 4x400-meter relay team of Danielle Wilson, Clare Holmes, Mitchell and Puetz with a time of 4:13.95 and a fifth place showing from its 4x100-meter relay team of Guy, Keaton Painter, Wilson and Maya Washington as it posted a time of 51.19 seconds.
Rhoads added a seventh place showing in the shot put at 34-9¾ as did Krista Hilmas in the 5,000-meters in a time of 19:24.19, while Kassandra Hayes was eighth in the high jump at 4-9 as was Puetz in the 800-meters in 2:29.67.
