ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T got NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark Saturday from
Luke Allen (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran),
Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) and
Jarett Johnson (Webb City, MO/Webb City) as it opened its 2021 outdoor season by winning the Miner Invitational at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
Swadley won the shot put competition with a mark of 56-5¾ to reach his provisional mark, which was one of the two events he won on the day as he also took first in the discus with a mark of 154-2. Allen, in finishing second in the long jump, made his provisional mark as he recorded a leap of 23-10¼ as five of his six jumps on Saturday exceeded the seven-meter mark.
Johnson's provisional mark came in the javelin throw, where he took second with a throw of 196-10.
The Miners had wins in six events on Saturday, as
Michael Pate (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) was victorious in the 400-meters with a time of 49.67 seconds, along with
Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) in the 5,000-meters in 15:22.60,
Aaron Toben (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) in the 400-meter hurdles in 54.62 seconds and
Joseph Nickell (Nixa, MO/Nixa) in the pole vault as he cleared 15-7.
S&T had a number of additional second place finishes Saturday, which came from
Alex Staples (River Forest, IL/Oak Park River Forest) in the 800-meters in 1:53.37, Rackers in the 1,500-meters in 3:55.43,
Hayes Pateidl (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:28.97,
Bailey Crone (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) in the high jump with a clearance of 6-2¾,
Garrett Miller (Kearney, MO/Kearney) in the hammer throw at 175-7.
Caleb Craft (Jackson, MO/Jackson) took third in the 100-meter hurdles with his mark of 16.50 seconds as did
Andrew Lofgren (Chesterfield, MO/Parkway West) in the steeplechase in 9:40.93,
Aaron Jones (Kansas City, MO/Ruskin) in the triple jump with a leap of 47-3 and Swadley in the hammer at 169-1, while
Daniel McMurran (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis University HS) and
Nick Janke (Rolla, MO/Rolla) tied for third in the high jump at 6-0¾.
Nathan Gillespie (Enterprise, AL/Enterprise) also placed third in the 5,000-meters in 16:53.29, one spot ahead of
Thaysen Feldbaumer's (Winona, MO/Winona) fourth place showing in 18:49.63. Janke took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.69 seconds as did
Jadon Kilpack (Hallsville, MO/Hallsville) in the pole vault with his clearance of 14-5¼,
Augustine Bindbeutel (St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers College HS) in the long jump with a mark of 22-5¾,
Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) in the hammer at 160-8,
Dane Huck (Warrenton, MO/Warrenton) in the javelin at 165-9 and Miller in the shot put with a mark of 46-1¼.
Christopher Bent (Falmouth, Jamaica) finished fifth in the 400-meters with a time of 50.87 seconds, as did
Ethan Haller (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) in the 1,500-meters in 4:02.17 and Allen in the triple jump with a mark of 45-0½. Matt Weston had a pair of fifth place showings in the throwing events, doing so in the shot put at 44-2 and discus at 132-1½.
The Miners had a second place finish from its 4x400-meter relay team with a time of 3:20.08.
S&T scored 252 points in the meet to finish well ahead of Lewis, who came in with 200 points in the four-team meet.
