Track teams record nine first place finishes in weekend competition

ELSAH, Ill. – For the second consecutive week, Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) surpassed the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the shot put in capturing the competition at the TRXC Timing Opportunity 3 meet at Principia College, highlighting nine first place finishes by the two Missouri S&T track & field teams in the meet.

Swadley, who won last week's shot put event with a mark of 55-10½, won Friday's competition with a better mark of 56-9¼ to match his S&T school record.  His last two throws of the day were better than his best showing of a week ago, with the winning mark coming on the final attempt that put him currently into 13th place on the national list.

The Miners had five additional winning performances Friday, which came from Joseph Nickell (Nixa, MO/Nixa) in the pole vault as he cleared 15-1 as did Garrett Miller (Kearney, MO/Kearney) in the weight throw with his mark of 56-8, Nick Janke (Rolla, MO/Rolla) in the high jump as he cleared 6-4, Aaron Toben (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) in the 400-meters in a time of 49.91 seconds and Hayes Pateidl (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) in the mile with his time of 4:16.29.

Luke Allen (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) placed second in the long jump with a leap of 22-4½, as did Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) in the weight throw at 56-4½, Bailey Crone (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) in the high jump as he cleared 6-4, Ethan Haller (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) in the mile in 4:19.69 and Janke in the pole vault at 11-7¾.

S&T had third place showings from Swadley in the weight throw with a mark of 54-5¼, Miller in the shot put at 48-6¼, Caleb Craft (Jackson, MO/Jackson) in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.18 seconds, Toben in the 200-meters in 23.35 seconds and Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) in the mile in a time of 4:19.93 that completed a sweep of the top three spots in that event.

Fourth place finishes came from Jake Anderson (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) in the long jump at 20-7¾, Craft in the high jump at 5-4¼, Luebbert in the shot put at 45-8½, Dakota Doupe (Jones, OK/Jones) in the 400-meters in 53.24 seconds, while Crone took fifth in the long jump with a mark of 20-5¼ as did Janke in the shot put at 39-10¾.  Craft was seventh in the long jump at 19-2.

On the women's side, the victorious Miners were Danielle Wilson in the 200-meters in 26.63 seconds and 400-meters with a time of 1:03.22, Maya Washington in the 60-meter dash for the second week in succession in 7.98 seconds and Mia Magby in the pole vault with a clearance of 10-7½.

S&T got second place performances from Jessica Rhoads in the shot put as he recorded a mark of 39-6½, as well as Sydney Gratz in the pole vault at 9-7¾, Laurana Mitchell in the 400-meters in 1:04.62 and 800-meters in 2:53.14 and Washington in the 200-meters in 26.71 seconds and Krista Hilmas in the mile with her time of 5:37.10.

Annmarie Tyson finished in third place in the high jump with a clearance of 5-0¼ and Wilson did so in the long jump with a leap of 17-0¾.  Anne Simpson also recorded a third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.17 seconds as did Aly VanCardo in the 400-meters in 1:07.31. 

Kassandra Hayes finished fourth in the high jump by clearing 4-10½, while  Delaney Guy also had a fourth place showing in the long jump at 16-3 and 60-meter hurdles in 10.27 seconds as did Rhoads in the weight throw at 45-11¾ and VanCardo in the 800-meters in 3:00.59.  S&T got a fifth place showing from Keaton Painter in the high jump at 4-8¾ and Tyson in the long jump at 16-1½, while Guy finished sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 4-6¾ along with Simpson in the long jump at 16-1 and Painter in the 60-hurdles in 10.43 seconds.  Paige Lambright recorded an eighth place showing in the weight throw with a mark of 38-2.
