ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T freshman
Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard), who made two NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks and tied a school record last weekend, has been selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference's field athlete of the week.
Swadley tied a 12-year-old school record in the shot put with a mark of 54-1¼ to place fifth in the event at the David Suernam Gorilla Classic at Pittsburg State, while also recording a mark of 164-4 in the discus that gave him a third place finish and his second provisional mark of the day.
Swadley currently owns the second-best mark in the GLVC in the discus and third-best performance in the shot heading into this week's competition, where Missouri S&T will host the Dewey Allgood Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
It is the first weekly award for Swadley in the outdoor season, but he did win a weekly award during the indoor season in mid-February.
