Miners Host Tritons, Saints This Weekend

ROLLA, MO- The Miner women's basketball team will look to extend their win streak this weekend when they host the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday and the Saints of Maryville University on Saturday.

S&T is coming off a big GLVC win over Quincy University this past Saturday that broke the three-game losing streak and saw four Miner players hit double-digit scoring.

Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) kicked things off for S&T scoring all of her team-high 14 points in the second quarter of the game to put S&T up 35-27 going into the half.

Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) once again was an offensive factor for the Miners as she went 5-8 from the field and 2-3 from long range to chip in 12 points in 39 minutes. Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) nearly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds while Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) went 5-5 from the free-throw line at the end of the game to secure the win and add in 10 points.

The Miners are currently led by Alex Kerr's (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) 11.8 points per game with Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) right behind her with 10.7 per contest. Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) leads the team in both rebounds and blocks, bringing down 9.1 rebounds and blocking a league high 2.89 shots per game.

About Missouri-Saint Louis:
The Tritons (11-9, 5-6 GLVC) are currently on a three-game win streak that was extended last Saturday when they just barely scrapped by William Jewell. UMSL had a 15 point lead with less than two minutes left in the game before the Cardinals went on a 10-2 run in the last minute of the game to get within eight of the Tritons. But, time ran out for William Jewell as UMSL went on to claim the 68-60 win.

UMSL is led by Arielle Jackson's 15.4 points per game, who is ranked 4th in the league in points per game, while Alex LaPorta is chipping in 11.0 points per contest with a league leading 10.6 rebounds per game and is tied for second in the league with eight double-doubles for the season.

As a team, Missouri-St. Louis is shooting just over 40% from the field and is keeping their opponents to just under 64 points per game. They have kept seven of the opponents under 60 points this season sinking 290 total free-throws, an overall percentage of 71.4%.

The Miners lead the all-time series 38-23 over the Tritons but have not gotten a win over UMSL since the 2015-2016 season. In that game, both teams struggled to make a basket in the first half, looking at a 19-15 halftime score. A 26-point fourth quarter from the Miners would give them an edge to take the 53-41 win.

The last time the two teams met, Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) went 8-12 from the field and 4-7 from three-point range for 20 points. But, it was UMSL's defense in the second half that kept S&T at bay. While the Tritons went on to score 46 points over the 3rd and 4th quarters, they held the Miners to just 24 second half points to take the 76-53 win.

About Maryville:
The Saints (14-6, 8-3 GLVC) got two wins last week over William Jewell and Rockhurst to move into 4th place in the league standings.
In their win over Rockhurst, Maryville was led by Mary Barton's 20 points after going 10-10 from the charity stripe. Hunter Stidham chipped in 12 points for the Saints and went 5-6 from the field and 2-3 from three-point range.

After getting down 18-12 in the first 10 minutes of the game, the Saints came back with a dominating second quarter to take a 39-35 lead over the Hawks. Both teams would trade baskets in the third quarter before Maryville took control in the fourth and secured the 72-64 win.

Maryville is currently led by Mary Barton, who ranks 5th in the league with 15.3 points per game. Barton is also in the top 10 in the league for three-point FG made (40-6th), assists per game (4.8-2nd), assist/turnover ratio (2.46-2nd), and free-throw percentage (91.9%-1st). Kayla Steward and Stephanie Sherwood are also in double-digit figures in scoring with 12.1 and 10.3 points, respectively, while Sherwood and Abby Monis lead the team with a combined 13.5 rebounds per game.

The Saints lead the all-time series 7-10 with the last two match-ups going in favor of Maryville. The last time the two teams met, Maryville lead for the majority of the game while getting up by as much as 14. S&T cut their deficit to one early in the fourth quarter with a three-point basket from Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic). But, the Saints offense was too much for the Miners to stop and they went on to take the 76-68 win.
