ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T swimming coach Doug Grooms has announced the signings of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to join the Miner swimming team for the 2020-21 season.

The three signees are Noah Clancy from Alton, Ill.; Marcelo Busch from Sao Centrano Do Sui-Sp, Brazil; and Aidan Walters from Olathe, Kan.

Clancy competed at Alton High School and for the TCAY Tidalwaves Club program.  He placed third a year ago at the Illinois State Championships in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.55 seconds and also swam in the 100-yard breaststroke at the meet.  He also posted a time of 50.04 seconds in the event to place eighht at the YMCA Short Course National Championships in April.

He is expected to compete in the breaststroke and individual medley along as well as the backstroke at S&T.

"Noah will make an immediate impact on our squad with his ability to sprint in all strokes," Grooms said.  "He is one of the top backstrokers in the state of Illinois and will greatly improve us in that area."

Busch currently competes at Iowa Central Community College and is expected to compete in the freestyle events, where he has swam at several distances.  He recently posted career-best times in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races, while recording times of 9:36.05 in the 1,000-yard freestyle at last year's national championship meet at the junior college level and a mark of 16:02.71 in the 1,650-freestyle earlier in that season.

Busch placed third in 1,000-freestyle at last year's NJCAA meet, along with a finish of fifth in the 1,650-freestyle, sixth in the 500-free and eighth in the 200-freestyle.

"Marcelo has great range from 100-to-1,650 yards and will help offset the tremendous losses in our distance group," Grooms said.  "He is one of the top junior college distance swimmers in the country and I look forward to getting him to Rolla."

Walters competed at Olathe East High School and with the COOL Swim Team in Kansas and is coming off a 2018-19 season that saw him finish fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, where his best career time is 52.97 seconds.  He has swam in the freestyle events from 50-to-500-yards and recently won the 200-freestyle at the TYR Pro Super Finals, where he also captured titles in the 100- and 200-backstroke.

"Aidan is young for his class and has tremendous potential to improve in our program," Grooms said.  "His growth in the backstroke is going to help us build that group into a strength of our team."

Missouri S&T finished sixth at the 2019 NCAA Division II Championships and is currently ranked 21^st in the CollegeSwimming.com Division II rankings.
