ROLLA, MO- The Miner's will hit the road this weekend to take on Illinois Springfield and McKendree before hosting Indianapolis at home on Monday for a make-up game.
The Miners will play at the Prairie Stars on Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. and finish out the short road trip in Lebanon, Ill against the Bearcats on Saturday at 1 p.m. They will continue their season at home on Monday night at 5:30 when the Greyhounds come back to town to play in the postponed game from Saturday afternoon.
S&T is coming off a 74-48 loss to 18
th ranked Lewis University where
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) led the Miners with 15 points while going 7-9 from the field. Cold shooting in the first half and 17 turnovers led to the Flyer's 14
th consecutive win and pushing the Miners to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in GLVC play.
The Miners are led by
Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) and
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) who are both averaging just over 11 points per game while
Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) continues to dominate on the defensive end with her conference leading 2.8 blocks per game with a season total of 31.
About Illinois Springfield:
Illinois Springfield (5-8, 2-3 GLVC) is coming off an 80-66 loss to Maryville last Saturday where they saw their defense get broken by the Saints.
After hanging in with Maryville for much of the game, the Prairie Stars saw the Saints shoot 43% field in the second half and outscore them 22-15 in the final 10 minutes of the game.
The Prairie Stars are led by Lauren Ladowski, Jasmine Sangster, Val Meissner, and Tehya Fortune who are all averaging double-digits in scoring. As a team, Illinois Springfield leads the GLVC with their 78.4% from the free-throw line and is second in the conference with 221 free-throw attempts.
The Miners are 10-2 overall against Illinois Springfield with their last win in February of 2017 when S&T held on for the 59-49 win at home. The last time the Miners defeated the Prairie Stars in Springfield was in 2016 when
Bria Pierce (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley North),
Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia), and Jamy Douvier all reached double-digit figures to defeat Illinois-Springfield 64-43.
About McKendree:
McKendree (8-6, 2-3 GLVC) will face No. 2 Drury University on Thursday night before welcoming the Miners on Saturday. They are coming off a heartbreaking 69-64 loss to UMSL this past weekend.
The Bearcats held a seven point lead going into the fourth quarter where they saw the Tritons shoot their way back into the game and take the lead with 4:23 remaining. Eight made free-throws from UMSL in the final two minutes would secure the win.
McKendree is led by Sydney Diekhoff's 16.4 points per game, which is 3
rd best in the GLVC. Jordan Heberg and Megan Jensen are both scoring threats for McKendree with both averaging just over 10 points per game.
The Miners lead the all-time series 10-3, but the Bearcats won the most recent meeting 68-64 in Rolla during the final week of the season a year ago. That victory was McKendree's first win over S&T in eight tries in Rolla.
In Lebanon, the Miners have won three of the five matchups but the Bearcats took the most recent one 60-42 on Feb. 11, 2016. S&T's last win on McKendree's home floor came on Feb. 8, 2014 when they held on for the 77-74 victory.
About Indianapolis:
Indianapolis (6-8, 0-4 GLVC) is currently on a five game losing skid with the most recent coming against No. 2 Drury last Thursday. The Panthers wasted no time getting to business on Thursday, giving themselves a comfortable 36-21 lead going into the half before outscoring the Greyhounds 41-26 in the final 20 minutes. Before making their way to Rolla, the Greyhounds will face the Flyers of Lewis University on Saturday.
UIndy is led behind Taylor Drury's 15.8 points per game while Laura Thomas and Emma Benoit sit at 14.8 and 13.3 points per game, respectively. The trio combined for 31 of the team's 47 points against Drury last week

 The Miners are 3-10 in the all-time series with the Greyhounds with the last six games going in favor of UIndy. The last time the two teams met was in February of 2018 where S&T's late run to catch Indianapolis was cut short as they sank six free-throws in the final minutes of the fourth quarter as the Greyhounds beat out the Miners 72-65.
