ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's baseball will play its final non-conference game of the 2018 season this evening as it will head to St. Charles, Mo., for a 6 p.m., single game against Lindenwood University.
The Miners (21-23) and Lions (24-22) were originally scheduled to play during the final week of March, but was postponed due to rain. They will face off tonight in the last contest for both sides prior to the final weekend of regular season play, as the Miners finish their 2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule with a weekend series at Truman State beginning on Friday.
S&T is coming off a series win over Missouri-St. Louis as it took three of the four games from the Tritons, winning twice in dramatic fashion on walk-off home runs by
Conner Forsythe (Farmington, MO/Farmington). Forsythe, who is tied with
Matt Gruse (Neenah, WI/Neenah) for the team lead in home runs with three, hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11
th inning in S&T's 5-4 game one win on Saturday and followed that with a game-ending grand slam Sunday in an 8-4 win over the Tritons.
Forsythe is one of four Miners hitting over .350 on the season with a .354 average, where he is joined by
Tim Lira (Granger, IN/Penn) at a team-best .361, followed by
Drew Aldana (El Paso, TX/JM Hanks) at .358 and Gruse at .355.
Lucas Swindle (Weldon Spring, MO/Lutheran-St. Charles) leads the Miners with 30 runs batted in and Gruse has knocked in 28.
The Miner pitching staff enters tonight's contest with a 5.28 earned run average.
Lindenwood, who wraps up its 2018 regular season campaign with a home series against Emporia State this weekend, has won six of its last eight games heading into Tuesday's game. The Lions are hitting .284 as a team this season, led by Drew Quinones with a .358 average and Dominic Revetta at .352, while the pitching staff has recorded a 4.98 ERA on the season.
