Miners host Westminster Sunday in resumption of schedule

ROLLA, Mo. -- Missouri S&T returns to action following the NCAA Division II winter break on Sunday as it welcomes Westminster (Mo.) to Gibson Arena in its final non-conference game of the season.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Miners picked up a victory in their last game prior to the break, using a school-record 38-point second quarter to post an 82-49 win over Missouri Baptist.  S&T, who comes into the game at 3-4 on the year, outscored by Spartans by 27 points during that second quarter outburst, as Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) tied her career high with 22 points and Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) had her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Raley leads the Miners in scoring with an average of 15.6 points per game, doing so while shooting 58.7 percent from the field and 48.6 percent from three-point range.  Raley -- who hit her 100th career three-point in the MBU game -- is fourth in the GLVC in field goal percentage and sixth in three-point shooting.

Baylor, meanwhile, is third in the GLVC in rebounding with her 9.4 boards per contest and also has 17 blocked shots, which ranks second in the league.

The Miners have one additional double figure scorer in Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) with an average of 10.3 points per game, while Jordan Kabestke leads S&T with 29 assists; her average of 4.1 per game is the fifth-best mark in the conference.

Westminster brings a 9-2 record into Sunday's game, but lost its last game prior to the holiday break when it fell 86-81 to Nebraska Wesleyan.  That loss snapped a nine-game winning streak held by the Blue Jays, their longest since a 15-game run three years ago.

Mirrakohl Johnson led the Blue Jays with 23 points in that loss and comes into the contest as the team's second-leading scorer with an average of 17.5 points per game.  Johnson is a 52 percent shooter from the field and is also the top rebounder with 11.5 a game.

Kendahl Adams is the top scorer for Westminster with her mark of 18.4 points per outing and is pulling down nine rebounds a game for a team that has been outrebounding its opponents by 13 per game.

Westminster averages 9.2 three-pointers per game, with Kallee Dowler making three per contest and making them at a rate of 38.4 percent.
