ROLLA, Mo. – After picking up its second Great Lakes Valley Conference win of the season Monday night, MissourI S&T's women's basketball team heads to the road for its next three games starting with a road trip this weekend to Southern Indiana and Bellarmine.
The Lady Miners will face Southern Indiana Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Evansville, Ind., before taking on Bellarmine Saturday at 1 p.m. (Eastern time) in Louisville.   The road stretch for S&T concludes next Thursday at Quincy.
Missouri S&T made some key plays down the stretch Monday to beat William Jewell 64-59, improving to 7-8 overall and 2-5 in the GLVC.  The win, which came as the Lady Miners outscored Jewell 9-4 over the final 2:35 with 
Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) scoring six of those points, was the 200
th in the head coaching career for 
Alan Eads at Missouri S&T.
Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) recorded her first career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while sharing the scoring lead on the night with 
Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) with the 14 points.  Arand leads S&T for the season with an average of 14.9 points per game and is also among the GLVC leaders in three-point shooting at 42.9 percent and free throw shooting at 92.3 percent, while Raley is averaging 12.7 per contest and has connected 20 times from three-point range.
Meanwhile, 
Bria Pierce (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley North) has averaged 9.6 points and seven points a game since rejoining the lineup and Kabetske is scoring 8.1 points a game to go along with a team-high 43 assists.
ABOUT SOUTHERN INDIANA: The Screaming Eagles, ranked 21
st in this week's WBCA/Division II national poll, have rolled to a 13-2 start to the 2017-18 season and are 5-1 in the GLVC.  USI's only conference loss came at Drury on Jan. 6, but despite the loss, the Screaming Eagles still sit third in the league's playoff rankings through play on Saturday.
Defense has been the key to USI's success this season, as the Screaming Eagles have held their opponents to a league-low 54.9 points per game.  Opposing teams have made just 35.4 percent of their shots from the field this season and have been held to a 28.3 percent mark from three-point range.
Individually, Kaydie Grooms leads USI with an average of 18.4 points per game – the third-best mark in the GLVC – while Morgan Dahlstrom is seventh in the conference at 15.4 points per game.  Both players also rank among the top six in the league in field goal percentage, as Dahlstrom – who leads the GLVC with 9.9 rebounds per game -- is hitting 56.2 percent of her shots and Grooms is at 53.6 percent.
Kacy Eschweller is just short of double figures for the Screaming Eagles with a mark of 9.6 points per game, while Randa Harshbarger leads USI with 54 assists and 50 steals, the second-most in the GLVC.
ABOUT BELLARMINE: The Knights head into Thursday's game with eighth-ranked Drury with a record of 8-8 and are 3-4 in the GLVC following Monday's 67-59 loss to Southern Indiana.  In that game, the Knights got 22 points from Raven Merriweather, but shot just 37.5 percent for the game and were outrebounded by 15 boards by USI.
Merriweather is one of three Knights averaging in double figures heading into play this weekend with an average of 17.9 points per contest, while connecting on a team-high 27 three-pointers and leading the team in rebounding (6.2 per game) and in steals with 36.  Merriweather enters the week ranked fourth in the GLVC in scoring.
Mikayla Berry is scoring 11.4 points per outing, while Beth Bowers is posting 10.4 points a game; Liza Tibbs, a 59.6 percent shooter from the field, is averaging 9.8 points a game.  As a team, the Knights have struggled with their overall shooting – hitting just 42.5 percent of their overall field goal attempts and 27.8 percent from long range – but are still averaging 71.8 points a game to rank fourth in the GLVC.
The Knights are also among the top offensive rebounding teams in the conference, pulling down 13.5 boards per game on that end of the floor.
