Friday's meet results
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Missouri S&T saw its 800-yard freestyle relay team finish in a tie for fifth to highlight its efforts Friday on the third day of the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.
The Miners entered the meet with the third-best time in Division II this season of 6:31.38 and broke its school record in the event in its race Friday night, as the team of
Kevin McPherson (Oakdale, MN/Tartan),
Eirik Nielsen (Stathelle, Norway/Toppidrettsgynmaset),
Morgan Meyer (Ruston, LA/Ruston) and
Jon Glaser (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) finished in a time of 6:30.81 to break the old record by 0.04 seconds. The Miners tied Simon Fraser for fifth in the race.
S&T had one other scorer Friday as
Miguel Chavez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) placed third in the consolation final and 11
th overall in the 100-yard breaststroke, as he finished with a time of 54.41 seconds.
Tim Samuelsen (Stavanger, Norway/St. Svithun VGS) recorded a time of 4:34.70 in the 500-yard freestyle and
Aaron Taske (Fairfield, OH/Saint Xavier) had a time of 1:50.69 in the 200-yard butterfly on Friday.
With Friday's results, the Miners will enter the final day of competition at the national meet in 19
th place in the team standings. On Saturday, S&T will have Glaser, Chavez, Taske and Samuelsen in action in individual events as well as its 400-yard freestyle relay team of Glaser, Nielsen, McPherson and Meyer.
