Biography

2015-16: Finished seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke to earn All-America honors…also earned All-America status in the 100-yard breaststroke and as part of the 200-yard medley relay team…competed in the 200-individual medley and 400-medley relay at the 2016 NCAA-II Championships…won GLVC titles in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke at the GLVC Championships, setting a new conference and school record times in both finals…took fourth in the 200-IM at the GLVC Championships…was part of S&T’s second place team in the 400-medley relay and third place finisher in the 200-medley relay at the GLVC Championships and also scored as part of the 200-freestyle relay.

2014-15: Earned All-America honors with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Division II Championships…won the GLVC championship in the event and had a season-best time of 1:57.31 during the season, setting a new school record…had a second place showing in the 100-breaststroke with a top mark of 54.76 seconds…also placed sixth in the 200-individual medley where he had his season-best time of 1:51.04 and was part of the Miners’ fourth place team in the 400-medley relay…also scored in the 200-yard medley relay…earned honorable mention All-America honors as part of the 200-medley relay team at the national meet...named to the CSCAA Scholar All-America team.

2013-14: Joined the Miners at midseason during the 2013-14 campaign…recorded top marks of 55.32 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke, 1:59.18 in the 200-breaststroke and 1:52.15 in the 200-individual medley…was also part of the Miners’ top medley relay teams during the season.

PERSONAL: Son of Miguel and Domitila Chavez…competed at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, representing Mexico, and placed second in the consolation final of the 200-meter breaststroke with a career-best time of 2:15.19...majoring in mechanical engineering.
