ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's basketball team hits the road for the first time in Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Thursday traveling to St. Louis to face Maryville. S&T looks to snap its three game losing streak and win at Maryville for the first time since January 28, 2010.
The Lady Miners take on the Saints in a 5:30 p.m. contest at Maryville's Moloney Arena. S&T brings a 4-3 record into Thursday's game after dropping its conference opener Saturday to Illinois Springfield, while Maryville dropped its first two GLVC contests on the road and is 3-3 on the season.
The Lady Miners missed 13 of their first 16 shots and shot only 21 percent from the field in the opening half in the 72-46 loss to the Prairie Stars. S&T trailed by 13 at the break but cut the deficit to eight points early in the third quarter thanks to a 9-2 run highlighted by five points from
Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic).
Michelle Borgen (Tinley Park, Illinois/Andrew) led the way in scoring with 13 points while
Joe'l Bland (St. Charles, Mo./Homeschooled) added eight and Kabetske finished with seven.
Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) grabbed a career-high seven rebounds.
Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) leads the way with an average of 14.6 points per game – good for ninth in the GLVC – while Borgen is averaging 14.1 points a game and Raley is at 13.6 with a team-high 15 three-point baskets.
Kim Runge (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) is tied for third in the GLVC averaging 8.7 rebounds per game.
ABOUT MARYVILLE: The Saints enter Thursday's contest with a 3-3 overall record after dropping their first two GLVC contests over the weekend. Maryville suffered a 63-52 loss at William Jewell last Thursday and then dropped a 67-59 decision at Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon.
Stephanie Sherwood is among four Saints averaging in double figures for the season with her average of 14.8 points per game and leads the team with 13 three-point baskets. Kayla Steward is dropping home 13 points per contest, Ali Ringering is averaging 12.2 points a night and Mary Barton is at 10.3 ppg.
Sherwood is the leading rebounder for Maryville averaging nearly five rebounds per contest while Ellen Foster is averaging 4.3 rebounds per game.
