Lady Miners travel to Joplin to close out first half schedule

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's basketball travels to Joplin to take on Missouri Southern in its final game before the Christmas break on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Leggett and Platt Athletic Center. The Lady Miners (4-4) look to snap a four game losing streak while the Lions (3-7) have won two straight.

In its last outing, S&T trailed by 14 points at halftime at Maryville but cut the deficit to 58-57 with more than seven minutes to play in the contest. The Saints responded with a 14-4 run of their own pushing their lead back to double figures and wouldn't allow the Lady Miners to get closer than six points the rest of the way.

S&T shot 44 percent from the field in the contest but was even better in the second half making 17 of 32 attempts. Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) finished with a career-high 19 points while also dishing out six assists and grabbing four rebounds. Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) and Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) added 16 and 15 points respectively. Katie Moreno-Bonnett (Bogota, Colombia/Life Preparatory Academy) added a career-high eight points. Kim Runge (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) pulled down nine rebounds and Arand matched her career-high with seven rebounds.

The Lady Miners continue to lead the GLVC in three-point shooting percentage making 39 percent of their attempts. Raley leads the squad with 16 threes while Arand has knocked down 14 and Kabetske has made seven.

Arand continues to lead the team in scoring with 14.6 points per game and is tied for eighth in the GLVC in that category. Raley is dropping in 13.9 per contest and Kabetske is adding 8.5 per game. Runge leads the team and is third in the GLVC in rebounding with 8.8 rebounds per game.

About Missouri Southern: The Lions picked up their second straight win last Saturday overcoming a 12-point deficit with 5:57 left in the game to defeat Lindenwood 78-75. Chelsey Henry hit the game-winning three-pointer with 0:04 to play. Desirea Buerge, sister of former Miner Desmond Buerge, scored a career-high 36 points in the contest. Henry added 19 and Dru Clark finished with 17.

Buerge leads the team in scoring with 22.5 points per game while Henry is dropping in nearly 16 per contest and Jenson Maydew is averaging close to 11 points per game. Buerge also leads the team in rebounding with 9.2 per contest.
