Lady Miners conclude four game road trip against top two teams in GLVC East

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners conclude its four game road trip taking on the top two teams in the GLVC's East Division this weekend. The Lady Miners (8-11, 3-8 GLVC) will take on Southern Indiana on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. in Evansville, Ind., and then on Saturday they will take on the 15th ranked Bellarmine Knights at 12 p.m. (CST) in Louisville, Ky.

S&T sits a game behind Missouri-St. Louis and Saint Joseph's for the final spot in the GLVC Tournament with seven games to play and looks to keep pace with the both the Tritons and Pumas. The top four teams from each division earn automatic berths and the final four spots will go to the teams with the next best records.

The Lady Miners look to bounce back from their disappointing loss at Truman State last Saturday in Kirksville. They fell behind early and were unable to overcome the three-point shooting of the Bulldogs as they shot 62 percent from the perimeter and S&T allowed a season-high 13 three-pointers. Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) led the Lady Miners with nine points while Raetchel Gray (Allen, Okla./Byng ), Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School), Sandra Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) and Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) added eight points apiece. Greenwood also matched her career-high with six assists in the contest.

Arand continues to lead the ball club in scoring with her 10.1 points per game while Greenwood is averaging 9.3 points a contest and Gray is dropping in 7.9 a game. Katey Brown (Craig, Neb./Guardian Angels Central Catholic) leads the squad in rebounding with 5.5 per game and Aricca Daye (Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines East) has handed out a team-leading 54 assists. Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) is the top three-point shooter for S&T knocking down nearly 40 percent of her attempts.

Southern Indiana enters Thursday's contest with a record of 18-3, 10-1 GLVC, are winners of four straight and has won 13 of its last 15 overall. The Screaming Eagles picked up two road wins last weekend defeating Saint Joseph's 85-66 and then won a defensive battle at Indianapolis 58-47 last Saturday.

USI leads the GLVC in scoring at 79.5 points a game and are allowing just 58.8 points a game which ranks fourth in the league. It's also ranked first in the conference in scoring margin (+20.7), rebound margin at nearly 11 per game, assists (16.4), steals (11.5) and blocked shots (5.5).

Kaydie Grooms leads three Screaming Eagles in double figures with 15.6 a game. Tanner Marcum is averaging 13.5 per contest and Hannah Wascher is contributing 11.9 per game. Wascher and Morgan Dahlstrom are the team's leading rebounders averaging 8.0 and 7.9 rebounds per game respectively. Randa Harshbarger leads the team with 80 assists and Marcum has a team best 62 steals.

Bellarmine enters play this week with a record of 17-3, 9-2 GLVC and is ranked 15th in the latest WBCA Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Knights host ninth ranked Drury on Thursday evening in Knights Hall beginning at 4:45 p.m. Bellarmine began the season winning 15 of its first 16 contests but has gone just 2-2 in its last four games. Last weekend the Knights dropped an 80-65 decision at Indianapolis and then hung on for an 86-81 win at Saint Joseph's. They led by as many as 17 in the fourth quarter against the Pumas but SJC was able to cut the deficit to three points with 0:07 left. Bellarmine made two of its final four free throws to seal the win.

The Knights are led in scoring and rebounding by Sarah Galvin with 15.4 points and 7.9 rebounds a game. Raven Merriweather is averaging nearly 13 points a contest and Destony Curry is dropping in 10.9 a game. Whitney Hartlage leads the team with 66 assists and Merriweather has a team-high 38 steals.
