KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Competing for the final time prior to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, Missouri S&T's swimming team geared up by getting 13 winning performances as it rolled to a
188-74 win Friday night over Truman State.
The Miners won all but one event in the meet Friday, including three wins from
Jon Glaser (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:41.49, 50-yard freestyle in 21.28 seconds and 100-yard freestyle in 46.77 seconds.
Miguel Chavez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) also had a pair of wins in the meet, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.83 seconds and 200-breaststroke in 2:09.79.
S&T's other six first place showings on an individual basis came from
Tim Samuelsen (Stavanger, Norway/St. Svithun VGS) in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:48.37,
Dylan Friesz (Round Rock, TX/Hutto) in the 100-yard backstroke in 53.72 seconds,
Aaron Taske (Fairfield, OH/Saint Xavier) in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.39,
Kevin McPherson (Oakdale, MN/Tartan) in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:41.41,
Ethan Shih (Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista) in the 100-butterfly in 52.02 seconds and
Eirik Nielsen (Stathelle, Norway/Toppidrettsgynmaset) in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:56.03.
Both of S&T's relay teams were also victorious, as the 200-medley relay team of Shih, Chavez, Nielsen and
Morgan Meyer (Ruston, LA/Ruston) won in 1:34.84 and the 200-freestyle team
Jared Dachroeden (St. Louis, MO/Parkway North), Meyer,
Marcin Glebocki (Kansas City, MO/Park Hill) and Glaser with a time of 1:26.05.
McPherson placed second in the 1,000-freestyle in 9:51.51, along with Shih in the 200-butterfly in 1:56.78,
Chris Betts (Katy, TX/Cinco Ranch) in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.74 seconds, Friesz in the 200-backstroke in 1:55.46,
Alejandro Chavez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Colegiao de Bachilles) in the 200-breaststroke in 2:15.66, Samuelsen in the 500-freestyle in 4:47.30 and Meyer in the 100-butterfly in 53.49 seconds.
Third place finishes Friday came from
John-Martin Schmidt (Topeka, KS/Hayden) in the 1,000-free in 10:05.52,
Stuart Mossop (Houston, TX/James E. Taylor) in the 100-backstroke in 54.04 seconds and 200-IM in 2:00.43,
Max Middendorf (Hudsonville, MI/Hudsonville) in the 100-breaststroke in 1:01.39 and 200-breaststroke in 2:16.66, Dachroeden in the 200-backstroke in 1:57.94.
The GLVC Championships will get underway Feb. 8 in Crawfordsville, Ind.
