Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners look to get back on the winning track as it returns home for a two-game homestand to take on Rockhurst and William Jewell this weekend. The Lady Miners will square off against the high flying Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday evening and then conclude the homestand with a visit from William Jewell on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
S&T looks to break a pair of six game losing streaks when it hosts Rockhurst (10-4, 5-2 GLVC) on Thursday evening. The Lady Miners (6-9, 1-6 GLVC) have dropped six straight overall and six straight in league play while the Hawks have won two straight.
S&T's valiant second half comeback attempt from a 16-point halftime deficit ran out of time in its 67-60 loss at Saint Joseph's last Saturday. The Lady Miners couldn't overcome a poor shooting first quarter as they were just 2-for-12 from the floor and trailed by 12 after the first quarter.
Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School) led four S&T players in double figures with 14 points while
Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) added 13,
Raetchel Gray (Allen, Okla./Byng ) dropped in 12 and
Sandra Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) finished with 10.
Greenwood leads the team in scoring averaging 9.3 points per game and Arand checks in second with 8.7 per game. Gray is scoring eight points per contest and has made a team best 22 three-pointers.
Katey Brown (Craig, Neb./Guardian Angels Central Catholic) is the team's leading rebounder pulling down six per game.
Rockhurst comes into Thursday's game as one of the top three-point shooting teams in the GLVC knocking down a league-high 119 threes, has three players with at least 23 made three-point baskets and is shooting 37.4 percent from beyond the arc.
Mary Dineen paces the Hawk attack and is second in the GLVC in scoring averaging 18.6 points per game. Dineen is joined in double figures by Marissa Lowe is averaging 12.6 points per game overall but is averaging nearly four points per game more in GLVC action. Lowe ranks third in the conference in 3-point field goals made per game at 2.6 and is fifth in 3-point field goal percentage making 42.4 percent of her attempts from downtown. Kaci German is the team's leading rebounder with 5.1 per game while Jillian Myers has dished out a team best 48 assists.
William Jewell enters Thursday's contest at 12
th ranked Drury with a record of 7-7, 3-3 GLVC after picking up its second straight win defeating Avila 74-59 on Monday afternoon. Maddie Nelson led the Cardinals with 22 points in the contest and was joined in double figures by Lindsey McCoy with 16 and Kayla Harrell added 10.
Nelson leads WJC in scoring and rebounding with 16.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Harrell checks in at second on the team with 8.3 points per game while Katie Finn is dropping in 7.6 points a contest. Nelson also leads the team with 63 assists and 45 steals.
