Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners begin the toughest stretch of its schedule playing six of its next eight games on the road beginning on Thursday against the Indianapolis Greyhounds at 4:30 p.m. (CST). The road trip continues on Saturday with a stop in Rensselaer, Ind., to take on the Pumas of Saint Joseph's College in a 1 p.m. contest.
The Lady Miners (6-7, 1-4 GLVC) look to snap a pair of four-game losing streaks when they take on the Greyhounds (9-5, 3-1 GLVC) on Thursday. S&T has struggled on the defensive end of the floor during its skid allowing 81.5 points per game and has given up at least 78 points three times after allowing only two opponents to score more than 70 points in its first nine contests.
Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) continues to lead the ball club in scoring with 8.7 points per game while
Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School) is chipping in with 8.3 per contest and
Raetchel Gray (Allen, Okla./Byng ) is adding 8.0 per game.
Katey Brown (Craig, Neb./Guardian Angels Central Catholic) leads the squad with nearly six rebounds per game while
Aricca Daye (Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines East) leads the team in assists (47) and steals (22).
Indianapolis snapped its two-game losing streak with a pair of wins in St. Louis last weekend defeating Missouri-St. Louis 76-65 and Maryville 74-61. The Greyhounds, under first year head coach Kristin Draybin, rank amongst the conference leaders on the defensive side of the ball holding opponents to just 59.3 points per contest.
A pair of Division I transfers leads the offensive attack for UIndy. Junior forward Sydney Brackemyre, a transfer from Louisville, leads the club averaging 17.3 points per game while junior guard Martha Burse, a transfer from IUPUI, is averaging close to 15 points per game and leads the team with 51 assists. Nicole Anderson, a senior forward from Terre Haute, Ind., leads the team with nearly eight rebounds per game.
It's been an up and down year for Saint Joseph's as it enters Thursday's contest against 12
th ranked Drury with a record of 6-8, 2-2 GLVC. The Pumas, coming off their best season since 1994-95, won 19 games last season and advanced to the quarterfinals of the GLVC Tournament where they lost to eventual GLVC champion Bellarmine.
SJC dropped its four contests to begin the season, then won three straight but has lost four of its last seven. It went 1-1 last weekend in St. Louis defeating Maryville 65-59 and then lost to Missouri-St. Louis 54-53.
Kalea Parks, the GLVC's Freshman of the Year four years ago while she was playing for current Puma head coach Steve Harold at Drury, leads the team in scoring and rebounding with nearly 15 points and six rebounds per game. Lauren Ruth is contributing 10.1 points per game to the attack while Brittany Morris has handed out a team-high 65 assists.
