JOPLIN, Mo. – Missouri S&T had one event win and an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark posted Friday on the opening day of the Missouri Southern Invitational.
Tim Sills won the men's open pole vault Friday as he cleared 15-3, just shy of the Division II provisional mark.
Andrew Scherff tied for fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-9¼,
J.R. Frisella was eighth in the 200-meters in 22.75 seconds as was Trace Norfleet in the long jump with a mark of 21-10¼, while John Karsten took ninth in the weight throw with a top mark of 52-11.
Camille Baker (Knoxville, Tenn./Knoxville Catholic HS) placed third in the pentathlon and made the NCAA provisional mark in the process with a school record total of 3,262 points, finishing among the top four in three of the five events.
Rachael Lawal and Natalie Schreiver were the only other Lady Miners to finish among the top 10 in an event Friday, with Lawal taking ninth in the 200-meters with a time of 26.42 seconds and Schriever placing 10
th in the pentathlon with a total of 3,013 points.
The meet concludes on Saturday.
