INDIANAPOLIS, In. -- The Women's Indoor Track and Field team received 139 points in the preseason poll, tying them with Maryville for fifth place.
Coach
Shaun Meinecke has added a lot of new pieces to the team, as 12 of the 23 athletes on the roster are freshman, but the Miners are welcoming back several big contributors from last season, with javelin record-holder Haylee Woodhall at the forefront of that group.
Hailey Smith (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) and
Grace Giesler (Owasso, OK/Owasso) also made it into the record books last season… Smith for the triple jump and Giesler for the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
Other returners to keep an eye on will be
Olivia Henkel (Liberty, MO/Liberty North), who set a new personal best (PB) in the high jump at the end of the outdoor season in April,
Maya Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro), who had five PBs in the final month of the outdoor season, and
Elizabeth Rothweiler (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne), who made a huge improvement on her pole vault PB at the outdoor championships with a 3.63 mark… .33 meters more than her previous best.
The season is set to begin on December 6th with a trip to Pittsburg, Kansas for the Crimson and Gold Invitational.
