Meet results

KENOSHA, Wis. – Missouri S&T got top performances from two of its freshmen Sunday to highlight its efforts at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, as Amanda Wetzel (Keller, Texas/Keller) captured the pole vault title and Skyler Ruszkowski (League City, Texas/Clear Falls) took second in the high jump.

Wetzel won the pole vault by clearing 11-10 and did not have a miss until the final height, giving her the championship based on fewer missed.  Meanwhile, Ruszkowski cleared 5-5¼ to take second in the high jump in her first collegiate conference meet, falling to Lewis' Amber Cook based on just one more miss than Cook in the competition.

The pair of top two finishes, along with a third place finish in the 4x400-meter relay and four other scoring efforts Sunday, allowed the Lady Miners to finish seventh in the team standings.  Lewis won the team title by a wide margin over Indianapolis and Bellarmine.

S&T had three finishers among the top eight in the 400-meters in Rachael Lawal, who took fifth in 58.62 seconds, followed by Erika Simple (Bloomington, Ill./Normal University) in sixth in 58.75 and Alexis Lee (West Plains, Mo./West Plains) in eighth in 1:00.78.  Lawal would later add an eighth place finish in the 200-meters in 26.04 seconds.

The aforementioned sprinters, along with Natalie Schreiver, took third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:58.30.

On Saturday, the Lady Miners had three of the top eight finishers in the pentathlon Saturday, led by Anne Massey (St, Louis, Mo./Lindbergh HS)'s fifth place finish with a total of 3,152 points.  Schriever finished with 3,087 points to place seventh, while Camille Baker (Knoxville, Tenn./Knoxville Catholic HS) was eighth with 3,079 points.

Massey had the second-best performance in the pentathlon high jump by clearing 5-3¾, while Schriever and Baker were one-two in the final event, the 800-meters, with Schriever winning in 2:25.83.

S&T also got an eighth place showing from its distance medley relay team of Tori Bonnot (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City), Schriever, Crystal Beffa (Festus, Mo./Festus) and Haylie Wiesner (Liberty, Mo./Liberty) with a time of 12:59.58.
