Baker breaks school record, makes NCAA provisional mark in opener

Friday's Results

PITTSBURG, Kan. – With a school record performance along the way, Missouri S&T's Camille Baker (Knoxville, TN/Knoxville Catholic HS) posted a second place finish in the pentathlon in the team's first meet of the season Friday in the Boo Rogers Combined Events Classic at Pittsburg State University.

Baker – who easily cleared the NCAA Division  II provisional mark with a total of 3,648 points -- set her record mark in the first event of the meet, posting a time of 8.95 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to break the standard she set last season.  She had the third-best time in the event and over the course of the day, Baker would finish second or third in four of the five events.

In addition to her record-setting performance in the hurdles, Baker had marks of 5-2 ¼ in the high jump, 32-2 in the shot put, 17-11 ¾ in the long jump – just over an inch off the school record in that event – and 2:21.27 in the 800-meters

S&T's other competitor in the pentathlon Friday, Natalie Schriever (Sullivan, MO/Sullivan HS), finished in 12th place with a total of 2,948 points

Through four events of the men's heptathlon, Trevor King leads the group of four from S&T as he sits in eighth place with 2,588 points.  Ezekiel Buck recorded 2,424 points over the first four events, while Nathan Bustamante had 2,081 and Sheaffer Smith had 1,929.

King had the highest finish in an event for the Miners Friday as he placed fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 6-2.

The heptathlon will finish Saturday as part of the Crimson & Gold Invitational, which will be the opening meet of the indoor season for much of the S&T track & field teams.
