Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners tip-off Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend hosting the Maryville Saints at 5:30 p.m. this Thursday and then will take on the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Thursday's contest is the beginning of a four-game homestand for the Lady Miners.
S&T (4-2, 0-0 GLVC) has won three of its last four contests and looks to snap a pair of losing streaks on Thursday. The Lady Miners have lost three straight GLVC openers after winning their first eight since beginning conference play in 2005-06. They'll also try and snap a seven-game losing streak against Maryville (3-2, 0-0 GLVC). The Saints lead the all-time series 8-6.
In its last game, S&T rallied from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Northwest Missouri State 68-65 in St. Joseph, Mo., last Saturday.
Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School) led the Lady Miners with 17 points, 10 of those coming in the final quarter, while
Sandra Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) added 10 points and seven rebounds. The Lady Miners were just 6-of-14 at the foul line before hitting their last nine free throws to close out the win.
Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) is the lone S&T player averaging double figures in scoring with 12.2 points per game. Greenwood and
Aricca Daye (Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines East) are each dropping home 8.3 per contest while
Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) is scoring 7.7 a game.
Kim Runge (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) continues to lead the team in rebounding pulling down 6.8 rebounds per game while Daye is averaging close to four assists per contest.
Maryville has won two in a row heading into Thursday's contest after defeating LeMoyne-Owen 72-47 last Tuesday in Memphis and then defeated Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 61-53 in St. Louis on Saturday afternoon.
Ali Ringering and Stephanie Sherwood lead the Saints in scoring averaging 12.8 and 12.6 points per game respectively while Amanda Ponce is chipping in with 9.2 points per contest. Alex Wolf leads the team in rebounding grabbing nearly 10 rebounds per game and Ringering is averaging nearly three assists per contest.
Maryville leads the GLVC in three-point makes with 8.4 per game and in opponent three-point field goal percentage at 21.3 percent. Ringering and Sherwood have combined to connect on over half of the Saints three-point field goals.
Missouri-St. Louis heads into Thursday's contest at Drury with a record of 3-2 after having its two-game winning streak snapped by Arkansas Tech 63-54 last Saturday in St. Louis. The Tritons are averaging only 56.4 points per game but have been stingy on defense yielding just 53.2 points per contest.
Jordan Fletcher leads the team in scoring with 12.6 points per game and is joined in double figures by Laura Szorenyi with 10.5 per contest. Shawnta Johnson is averaging a team best 7.5 rebounds per game and Szorenyi is dishing out over two assists per game.
