Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners tip-off the home portion of its 2016-17 schedule with a pair of home games this week. The Lady Miners welcome the Lincoln Blue Tigers to the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building for a 5:30 p.m. tip on Wednesday and then host Missouri Baptist in a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Miners opened the season last weekend going 1-1 at the Tarleton State TexAnn Classic in Stephenville, Texas defeating the host TexAnns 68-66 last Friday before falling to the Cameron Aggies 77-60 on Saturday afternoon.
Aricca Daye (Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines East) led the Lady Miners with 14 points, five assists and five steals in the win over Tarleton while
Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) dropped in 13 points. Arand was the lone player to reach double figures in the loss to Cameron on Saturday scoring 13 points while
Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) and
Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) added nine points each.
The Blue Tigers (0-1) opened their season on the road as well suffering an 86-64 setback at Rockhurst last Saturday night. Azaria Nave and Hunter Yoakum combined to score 48 of the team's 64 points in the contest and shot a combined 16-for-28 from the floor and made all five of the team's three-pointers.
Yoakum is on pace to become the fourth Lincoln player ever to score 1,000 career points and is coming off a 2015-16 season in which she averaged 10.5 points per game. Nave played in all 28 games last year averaging 7.7 points and 2.2 assists per game.
Missouri Baptist is 1-0 on the season defeating Morthland College at home 99-37 on Nov. 15. The Spartans will play three games this week hosting College of the Ozarks on Tuesday at 5 p.m. and Stephens College on Thursday at 7 p.m. before heading down to Rolla.
Amanda Scott led Missouri Baptist in scoring in the season opener with 16 points on 8-of-8 shooting and was joined in double figures by Chanel Brown with 13 points and Shaylen Robinson added 11. The Spartans shot 62 percent from the field in that game and outscored Morthland 44-4 in points off turnovers.
