ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's track & field teams, as well as three individuals representing the two teams, earned academic honors today from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association of America.
The men's team, which won the outdoor championship in the Great Lakes Valley Conference for the second consecutive year and also placed second indoors, was one of 62 men's teams to earn the award. Teams with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better are eligible for the award.
Lucas Rosenbaum (Sidney, Neb./Sidney HS), who finished 12
th at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in the pole vault and was the indoor pole vault champion in the GLVC this season, was selected as one of the 239 individuals as a recipient of the USTFCCCA's all-academic award. To earn that award, student-athletes must have a 3.25 or better cumulative grade point average and have reached either a provisional or automatic qualifying mark during the indoor or outdoor season.
The Miners were among five teams from the GLVC honored, while Rosenbaum, majoring in engineering, was one of 18 individuals on the men's side to receive the award.
Meanwhile, the Lady Miners were one of 115 women's teams and eight from the GLVC to earn the award. On an individual basis,
Molly Clement (Souderton, Pa./Souderton, Pa.) and Capital One Academic All-America selection
Katlyn Meier (Vienna, Mo./Maries R-1) – the GLVC champion in the 400-meter hurdles – earned awards from the USTFCCCA for their work in the classroom.
Clement, a mechanical engineering major who provisionally qualified in the pole vault and Meier, who was in biological sciences, were among the 450 women honored, a total that included 31 from the GLVC. Clement and Meier both graduated from Missouri S&T in May.
Missouri S&T's women finished fourth at both of the GLVC championship meets during the 2015 track & field season.
