ROLLA, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners play its final two home games of the season this weekend hosting Rockhurst and William Jewell. With a pair of wins the Lady Miners can even their home record at 8-8 and run its winning streak to four straight at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. It'll be Senior Day on Saturday for the Lady Miners along with Military Appreciation Day.
S&T looks to bounce back from a pair of losses at Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis last weekend. In both games the Lady Miners got off to slow starts getting outscored 81-40 in the first half of the two contests. They did have solid second halves in both games trailing Parkside by just one point while outscoring Lewis by six points.
Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School), tied for second on the ball club in scoring, scored a career-high 22 points on a career-high nine field goals in the loss at Lewis last Saturday afternoon.
Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) continues to lead S&T in scoring with an average of 8.9 points per game while
Brittany Andersen (Saint John, Ind./Andrean ) is dropping in 7.7 points per contest.
Rockhurst snapped a six-game losing streak with a pair of wins last weekend defeating McKendree 71-67 and Illinois Springfield 53-50. Against the Bearcats last Thursday the Hawks overcame a three-point halftime deficit to earn the win. Taylor Skala had a career-high 20 points in the victory while Lauren Meyers added 13.
Last Saturday against the Prairie Stars Becca Strobbe canned a 3-pointer from 25 feet out with 1.5 seconds left to give Rockhurst the victory. The Hawks shot just 31.1 percent for the game and were 6-for-24 from beyond the arc but had four players finish in double figures led by Mary Dineen with 13 points. Kendall Hart dropped in 12 while Meyers and Skala had 11 and 10 points respectively.
Dineen leads three Rockhurst players in double figures averaging 13.8 per contest while Meyers is adding 12.9 a game and Hart is averaging an even 10 points per contest. Meyers also leads the team in rebounding with 5.3 rebounds per game while Jill Myers leads the team with 65 assists.
William Jewell improved to 13-10 on the season with a pair of road victories last weekend defeating Illinois Springfield 92-91 in double overtime last Thursday and then overcame a 17-point first half deficit to defeat McKendree 72-69 this past Saturday.
The Cardinals sit at 8-7 in the conference heading into Thursday's game at 11
th ranked Drury and are currently in a four way tie for fifth in the conference standings. The top four seeds for the conference tournament have been decided with Drury, Lewis, Wisconsin-Parkside and Southern Indiana all receiving first round byes.
William Jewell is battling it out with Quincy, Truman State and Missouri-St. Louis for fifth while Indianapolis, Saint Joseph's, Bellarmine and Maryville are a game behind at 7-8 and are in a four-way tie for ninth.
Aerial Smith leads the Cardinals in scoring with 13.2 points per game while Maddie Smith is dropping in 10.7 per contest and Haylie Jo Smith is averaging 10.5 per game. Aerial Smith also leads the team in rebounding with 6.2 rebounds per game and has dished out a total of 112 assists.
