ROLLA, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners close out its four game road trip with a pair of trips to St. Louis this weekend. S&T will take on Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday night beginning at 5:30 p.m. and then will travel to Maryville University on Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. contest.
The Lady Miners saw its slide hit six in a row and 11 of 12 overall after dropping a 70-55 decision at Rockhurst last Saturday afternoon. S&T trailed by as many as 31 points in that contest before finishing the game on a 17-2 run.
Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) recorded the Lady Miners first double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds while
Joe'l Bland (St. Charles, Mo./Homeschooled) scored a career-high 12 points in the loss.
S&T has five players averaging over seven points per game led by
Leigh-Ann Kesper (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) with 7.9 a contest.
Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School) is dropping in 7.7 a game,
Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) is contributing 7.6 to the attack, Douvier is averaging 7.3 per night and
Brittany Andersen (Saint John, Ind./Andrean ) is at 7.1 per game. Douvier also leads the team in rebounding with 5.8 per contest.
Missouri-St. Louis enters Thursday's game having dropped two straight after falling at Maryville 57-48 on Monday evening. The Tritons have dropped four of their last five overall and are currently 7-8 on the season, 3-4 in the GLVC. UMSL has been tough at home though going 6-0 and is beating the opposition by 14 points per game.
The trio of Alexis Lawrence, Kelly Kunkel and Tierra Snow has combined to account for nearly 50 percent of the team's scoring. Lawrence leads the Tritons with 14.3 points per game while Kunkel is averaging 10.5 per night and Snow is dropping in 10.2 per contest. Senior Kelly McGovern leads the squad in rebounding (7.4 per game), assists (49) and steals (29).
Maryville enters play this week riding a two-game winning streak after snapping a three-game skid with a 72-64 victory at Truman State on Saturday. The Saints then used its defense to defeat Missouri-St. Louis on Monday night holding the Tritons to just 31 percent from the floor. Maryville entertains 21
st ranked Drury on Thursday evening.
The Saints are 10-6, 4-3 in the GLVC and are averaging 72.4 points per game while allowing just 64.3 per contest. Shelby Miller leads the attack with 15.3 points per game and is averaging nearly 20 points per contest in league play. Alex Hillyer is dropping in 12.5 points per night while Jordynn Martin is contributing nearly 12 points per game to the attack. Miller also leads the team in rebounding (6.2 per game), assists (38) and steals with 21. Hillyer leads the team with 20 blocked shots.
