Taylor Cipicchio (Highland, Ill./Highland) completed a sweep of the GLVC pole vault competition for the 2014 season with a conference record performance Friday, helping put Missouri S&T in fourth place after the opening day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.
Cipicchio, who won the league's indoor title two months ago, cleared 12-1¼ to win the pole vault over Lewis' Rebecca Preisler based on fewer misses. Cipicchio did not have a miss prior to the final height, while Preisler made 12-1¼ on her third try before also going out at 12-5¼.
The Lady Miners had three of the top five finishers in the pole vault, as
Rachel Ederle (St. Louis, Mo./Affton) came in third at 11-9¼ and
Natalie Mitchell (Gardner, Kan./Gardner-Edgerton) placed fifth with a clearance of 10-9½.
Mary Ann Bradshaw (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) stands fourth in the heptathlon after the completion of four events with 2,478 points, which included the second-best time in the 200-meters of 25.70 seconds.
The Lady Miners did not have a qualifier for Saturday's finals that came out of the preliminaries on Friday. The closest was
Katlyn Meier (Vienna, Mo./Maries R-1), who narrowly missed the final in the 100-meters by just 0.003 seconds for the last spot.
