ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's basketball team was picked to finish seventh in the Great Lakes Valley Conference's West Division for the 2014-15 season in the league's coaches poll released today.
The Lady Miners are coming off their worst season in 10 years going 9-18, 5-13 in the GLVC. S&T enters the new season with a roster significantly different from the one last year.
The Lady Miners lost its top six scorers from last year and have just two returnees in junior
Leigh-Ann Kesper (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and sophomore
Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School). The 2014-15 roster has 10 new players, which includes six transfers and four freshman.
Drury, the defending division champion, was picked to win the GLVC West receiving 12 of the 15 first place votes and 115 points overall. Missouri S&T opens its GLVC schedule against the Panthers on Dec. 4 in Rolla and will also close out the regular season playing them in Springfield, Mo., on Feb. 27.
Quincy was picked to finish second narrowly ahead of Maryville by one point. Truman State is projected to finish fourth while Missouri-St. Louis is slated for fifth followed by William Jewell, S&T and Rockhurst.
Lewis was the overwhelming favorite to win the East Division receiving 13 of the votes and were 20 points ahead of Indianapolis for second. The Greyhounds narrowly beat out Southern Indiana for third while Bellarmine was picked fourth. Rounding out the final four spots were Wisconsin-Parkside in fifth, Saint Joseph's in sixth, Illinois Springfield was seventh and McKendree came in eighth.
Missouri S&T opens its 2014-15 season on Nov. 15 when it hosts Henderson State (Ark.) in a 6 p.m. contest. The Lady Miners will follow that contest with a matchup against Hannibal-LaGrange on Nov. 18 in Rolla.
