Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's baseball team took a pair of games from Great Lakes Valley Conference co-leader Quincy Sunday afternoon at the S&T Baseball Field, winning by scores of 7-4 and 10-5 to complete a series in which it took three of the four games from the Hawks.

The Miners used a five-run second inning to overcome a Quincy three-spot in the first of the opener, then scored in six consecutive innings in the nightcap to complete the sweep and improve to 12-10 in the GLVC.

After the Hawks put the three runs on the board against S&T starter John Auble (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South) in the first, the Miners got rolling after the second out in the bottom of the second.

Will Morrison (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) drew a one-out walk and was still on first with two outs when Lance Portwood (Edmond, Okla./Edmond Santa Fe) doubled down the line in left to get the Miners on the scoreboard, then Colin Coan (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./South St. Paul) followed with a hit to score Portwood.

Clint Wobbe (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS) was hit by a pitch after the Coan single, then Michael Boxell (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt North) hit a ball toward the left field line that got past a diving Mitchell Broughton in left.  Broughton was injured on the play as the ball went all the way to the fence, allowing Boxell to circle the bases with a three-run, inside-the-park homer to put the Miners up 5-3.

S&T added two more runs in the third, one scoring on a wild throw that allowed Reed Brown (Rogers, Ark./Heritage) to come home and the other on an RBI single by Lance Portwood (Edmond, Okla./Edmond Santa Fe).

Auble recovered from the three-run first to allow just one run on six hits over the final six innings, inducing two of the three double plays turned by the Miners to escape trouble in the later innings.

Each team had eight hits in the contest, with Brown and Portwood getting two apiece.

Quincy broke on top in the second game as well, scoring in the second on a wild pitch, but the Miners answered right back in the bottom half on an RBI groundout by Coan.  An inning later, the Miners took the lead when Nick Ulrich (St. Louis, Mo./Vianney) walked and scored when Michael Lockett (O'Fallon, Mo./Timberland) doubled into the left field corner.

In the fourth, Zach Siegel (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview) got the first of his four hits with one out and Coan followed with a hit.  Kyle Rich (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, then Boxell was hit by one as well – the fourth Miner plunked in the first four innings – to force in a run.

The Miners missed a chance to add to the advantage in the fourth, but padded their lead with three unearned runs in the fifth.  S&T again loaded the bases with one out, but after a force out at the plate resulted in the second out, an error kept the frame alive and scored the first run of the inning.  Boxell followed that by singling off the glove of the third baseman, bringing home Siegel and Coan to make it 6-1.

Quincy scored twice in the sixth on Zach Knese's two-run single, but Tom Laudadio (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) entered the game and shut down the Hawks' rally at that point.  S&T then tacked on three more runs in the bottom of that inning and another in the seventh.

As was the case in game one, the two teams had an equal number of hits with 13 apiece in the nightcap.  Besides Siegel's four hits, Adams had three for S&T and Boxell and Lockett had two apiece.  Boxell drove in three runs to complete a six-RBI twinbill for the Miners.

Josh Raburn (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep), the second of five pitchers used by the Miners in the second game, picked up his first win of the season.  The Miner defense turned two more double plays in the contest as well and finished the day with five twin killings.

The Miners, who went to 13-19 overall with Sunday's sweep, will head to the road for their next six conference tilts.  That stretch begins Wednesday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader against current division leader Drury – who took over the division lead with a sweep of Illinois-Springfield Sunday – in Springfield, Mo.
