ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's cross country teams have announced their team awards for the 2013 season, headed by two that were the team's top runners at this season's Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.

Bradley Chronister (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Poplar Bluff), who earned All-Midwest region and All-GLVC laurels during the year, was selected as the recipient of the Mike Vancil most valuable player award. Chronister was the Miners' top finisher at every meet during the 2013 season, which included a 12th place finish at the GLVC Championships and 24th place showing at the NCAA Midwest Regional.

Alyson Smith (Scott Air Force Base, Ill./Mascoutah) was selected as the winner of the Kate Hamera MVP award as the women's top competitor for the season, following a year in which she was the Lady Miners' top finisher at the both the conference and regional meets.

The men's MVP award is named for Mike Vancil, the Miners' first conference champion in cross country, while the women's award is named for Kate Hamera, an All-America performer at Missouri S&T during her cross country and track career in the early 2000s.

The Joffroi Holcombe most improved award – named for the former S&T all-region performer – was given to Nathan Boys (Pomona, Mo./West Plains), who finished among the Miners' top five runners at four of the team's six meets during the season. Brenda Ellis (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East) was selected as the winner of the Sarah Moore most improved award – named for the team's former coach – after finishing among the top five in all six meets and among the top three in four of them.

The Joe Miner awards, presented to the top freshman for each team, were given to Garrett Wood (Neosho, Mo./Neosho) and Megan Schulte (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge). Wood finished in a scoring spot in five of the team's meets during the season, while Schulte finished first among the Lady Miner competitors at two meets and second at the other four.
