ROLLA, Mo. -- After outplaying Drury for a majority of the contest Wednesday night, Missouri S&T men's soccer team was beat
1-0 on a late goal in its home finale and will open the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on the road this weekend.
The Panthers had a corner kick in the latter stages of the game that the Miners were able to clear out, but Scott Stiffler sent a long shot from beyond 30 yards away that went into the net for the only goal of the game with just 2:15 remaining.
S&T was unable to get a shot off after the Drury goal and now will head to Rockhurst -- who landed the top seed for the GLVC Tournament -- for its opening round game this weekend. The game will be played Saturday at 6 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo.
The Miners outshot the Panthers 18-10 on the night and had several good scoring chances in the first half, when they had a 10-4 advantage in shots.
Trent Doerner (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak) had seven of the Miner shots to lead the way in that department.
